The perfect Sicilian holiday

With its circular towers, thick walls and high ceilings, Villa Santa Maria combines the fascination of a historical building with the comforts of luxury living. Down a palm tree-lined driveway is the turreted entrance of the villa. Past the family chapel and through a pretty pink courtyard complete with a marble well and statues is a door leading to the canary-yellow living room. Beside the dining area, you'll see a magnificent baroque-style fireplace with hand-made Sicilian tiles. The spacious kitchen next door carries on the Sicilian theme with its blue and white rustic tiles and terracotta floor.  Past the book-filled library are three large and distinctively-styled bedrooms, each with their own elegant bathrooms.

Stepping out into the orange grove, the terrace is bordered by citrus trees and lit at night by Moroccan lanterns. Framed by tall palm trees, the pool area has sun beds and a chill-out zone underneath the shade of an ancient olive tree. From here you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Mediterranean garden with its vine-covered pergola, as well as the olive grove (we harvest the fruit every October to make our own olive oil). Steps away is the private tennis court.

Villa Santa Maria offers an authentic Sicilian experience in a unique and historical setting.

About The Property

Enter through a beautiful driveway lined with date palms and bougainvillea to find a historical, castellated villa surrounded by olive groves and Mediterranean gardens.

The courtyard
An antique door leads into a pretty courtyard with porticoes, statuary and a marble well.

Inside the ground floor of the villa
Recently restored to a high standard of luxury, all the rooms are very spacious with great attention paid to the decoration.

The living area
The sitting room is very large with two separate seating areas. There is a music centre and a collection of CDs. The separate library has a vast collection of books, including children’s books.
The dining room seats eight. It has a beautiful tiled fireplace and French windows opening onto the orange grove. A separate television room has a flat screen TV with access to streaming channels (such as Netflix, Prime Video, etc), a DVD player and a wide selection of DVDs.

The kitchen
The kitchen is extremely well equipped. It has marble worktops, large gas oven and hob, microwave, two fridge-freezers, dishwasher, a wide range of kitchen utensils and electrical equipment and air conditioning. Washing and ironing can be done in the separate laundry.

Bedrooms
There are three large individually-styled bedrooms, two with king size beds and the third with twin beds that can be joined to form a king size bed. All three bedrooms have air conditioning and their own bathrooms, two of which are en suite. There is also a sofa bed in the study and two more extra beds are available. The blue Master Bedroom looks out onto the orangery, as does the Guest Room, which features an antique 4-poster bed and white beam ceiling. The third bedroom, our Moroccan Suite, features a kitchenette and blue-tiled en-suite bathroom and can be rented separately as a studio flat during the low season from November to March.

The walled garden
French windows from the dining room and from the study open onto a walled garden with 100 citrus trees and a splashing fountain that attracts a wide variety of birds. The dining terrace is shaded by orange and lemon trees and lit at night by overhead lanterns. Seating is for eight and a portable barbecue is provided.

The swimming pool
In a separate Mediterranean garden set behind the villa, with its vine-covered gazebo, exotic flowering plants and mature shady olive trees, this is the perfect place to relax. The pool measures 12 by 6 metres and is lined with white mosaic tiles. There is a large area for sunbathing, with beach chairs and sun beds. An ancient olive tree provides welcome shade for a seating area beside the pool

The tennis court
The tennis court is in front of the villa next to the formal gardens. Sicilian winters are short and it is warm and dry enough to play tennis almost all the year round. We provide racquets and tennis balls. The court is shared with the co-owners, who live on the top floor of the villa (separated from the ground floor villa).

"The most perfect holiday!"

“We absolutely fell in love with this special place. The villa was everything we dreamed it would be and more. The kitchen was very well stocked and we spent several evenings making feasts for our group. Dining in the orange grove was a dream. The grounds surrounding were so private, expansive and stunning. We made great use of the gorgeous pool and tennis court daily. The town of Mazara del Vallo was very nice and had everything we needed as far as restaurants and shops. We took a day to travel to Trapani for a boat tour with Egadi Boating and it was perfection. The villa location made it so easy to tuck ourselves away and pretend we never had to leave, or venture out and explore the sites of Sicily. Caroline and Marcello were incredible hosts and made the experience all the more memorable. We are already planning on a return trip to this magnificent place!"

"A wonderful time…"

“We have had a wonderful time staying at Villa Santa Maria. Everything was thoughtfully arranged, from grocery shopping to booking a restaurant for Sunday lunch on arrival (which was fabulous) and tennis lessons. All has worked out perfectly. Highlights have included picking our own oranges in the orchard for breakfast, the beauty of the gardens, wild flowers, local food and wine. But it works in tandem with the comfort and history of the villa.

"Highly recommend this very special place!"

“Santa Maria is absolutely beautiful, the gardens are stunning with a wonderful pool and tennis court. Our family and friends had such a lovely week here enjoying the villa but also the local surroundings. Mazara, the local seaside town is an unknown gem full of atmosphere and gorgeous Baroque churches. Other highlights were Selinunte and the Egadi Islands - both magical and well worth a visit. Caroline and Marcello looked after us brilliantly - nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend this very special place!¨
